Capturing the Hunt: Duck Hunting Mini Sessions


Duck hunting has always been more than just a sport in our family—it’s a passion, and a way of coming together. My father-in-law is an avid outdoorsman, and my fiancé shares his enthusiasm for the hunt. So, when the idea of offering duck hunting mini sessions came up, I knew it was the perfect way to blend my love for photography with a pastime that holds deep meaning for my family. Last night, we did a test run for these minis, and let me just say—it was everything I hoped for and more. Though I did slip in the mud and water walking out, HA! The setup came together beautifully, capturing the feel of the hunt while keeping the natural beauty of the outdoors. And, of course, we couldn’t do it without including our chocolate lab, Ella. She’s a natural in front of the camera and truly brings the session to life. She absolutely loves the water and enjoys the company of people, which makes her a great assistant for these minis.


To top it all off, I had the absolute joy of photographing two amazing little duck hunters for my very first official sessions—and they made it everything I dreamed it would be. From the moment we started, their excitement, energy, and love for the hunt came through so naturally. They definitely enjoyed the experience, and watching them embrace every moment reminded me exactly why I wanted to offer these sessions in the first place.
